Our Country Women Seniors Project is a community resilience project. It is for women seniors in Limestone Coast communities who can be overlooked in our community life. Yet they have rich experience and knowledge which deserves to be heard. This project and its website is being developed to give them a place to speak, in whatever way they wish.
Our goal is to work with 50 country women seniors across the South Australian Limestone Coast, beginning with the small township of Robe.
This project was informed by this thoughtful book:
Telling Stories: The Use of Personal Narratives in the Social Sciences and History, Kindle Edition, by Mary Jo Maynes, Jennifer L. Pierce, and Barbara Laslett, Cornell University Press, Ithaca, 2012.
We express our grateful thanks for their founding financial support to Barefoot Benefit, Robe, SA, and to the Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR), Bendigo, VIC.
We pay our respects to the late Viv Maher, a founding member of the RCA Advisory Board and a true elder of our community, who helped so many women throughout her life’s work and was instrumental in conceptualising this project and moving it forward.
The first presentation of these valued stories can be found at Women of the Limestone Coast: Voices .
The 2022 video report for community workers on what we did in the Robe trial, and what we learned from these wonderful women, is here.
